Pretty Little Werewolf Young Adult Shifter Fantasy eBook Katie Salidas

This was great, I really love Katie Salidas' writing and I found the premise to be an unique take on shifters. Giselle is a foster kid, who has been passed around to multiple homes because she has little quirk that people don't understand; she is a werewolf. Giselle is sent to a new home, but she has a bit of a chip on her shoulder and finds it hard to trust because she's only had herself to rely and depend on, so she isn't expecting much from her new place, but when she finds other werewolves, can she trust them enough to become part of their pack? Especially when she is hearing conflicting stories between the two wolf packs in town, and the possibility of a war brewing between them. Giselle doesn't know who to trust, so she sets out to solve the mystery of the feud between the packs and find out the truth in hopes of bringing peace to both packs, and with the help of Asher, a hot, but broody wolf shifter, and Damien, the hot and approachable guy with his own special powers, she begins to unravel the truth. Giselle is tenacious, and I admired that quality in her, and I like that she stands up for herself and her convictions. She doesn't take anyone at face value, she tries to look beyond what is presented to her, and she is brutally honest, which I loved. I liked reading about the mystery unfolding, and was interested in how it would all turn out. I liked that the other girls in her new home weren't the typical mean girls, they felt more authentic to me that way, and it was nice to see Giselle bond with them. There is a tinge of a love triangle, but not really. Giselle likes both Asher and Damien, but the feelings aren't be all end all type of feelings. I'm looking forward to seeing how Giselle progresses in the next book, and seeing where her story goes because there is still a lot about her life that remains hidden, so I'm definitely checking out the next book. Great start to this series!

Pretty Little Werewolf Young Adult Shifter Fantasy eBook Katie Salidas Reviews

This book was about a lone werewolf in the foster system named Giselle who finds out that there are other people like her, when she's 16 she arrives at her new home. Then finds herself inbetween a fued of 2 different Packs. I absolutely loved Giselle. She was strong, determined and loyal. I really liked the story line and how it moved along once all the characters were introduced. I love reading about werewolves, and this did not disappoint. I really liked this story. This book is full of fast-paced action and intrigue, also a love triangle (boo). I would love to see more between Giselle and her relationships with Damien and Asher. Then add Witches in the mix. love it
Seemed Giselle’s longing for a family who wanted her, were to come true. But, been a teenager wolf struggling to survive in the system, had taught her to distrust and there was something different with her new family. Giselle had been her own wolf for too long without another of her kind to teach her so, she thought ill of herself and her lack of social skills. Learning about the feud between the Thrace and Hernandez’s pack and been told not to get involved, raised doubts and mistrust. And she decided to get to the bottom of the mystery. Liked Giselle’s character, her inner strengths and inquiring mind. Supernatural drama with secrets, suspense, violence, pack politics and conflicts that affected all the characters. Good pace and plot development that kept me intrigued and expecting the worse to come forth. Ready for the second book because this book was interesting and entertaining.
A young werewolf who's spent her life in foster care finds her dream of being part of a real family threatened by a decades-long pack war.

Giselle's had a tough childhood full of displacement and rejection. She's about given up hope that any of her foster placements will turn into a forever family. So when she ends up at Martina Hernandez's house, where her "condition" isn't a cause for immediate removal, she should be over the moon. Turns out being part of a pack requires a degree of commitment and submission (to the alpha) that she's not sure she's made for. Then she finds out that her new foster mom may not be all she seems. There's an ongoing pack war and it isn't clear which side is at fault. Giselle needs to discover the truth before she commits to her new life.

Kadie Salidas does a good job giving us a layered heroine whose strengths and flaws vie for control of her better nature. As much as Giselle yearns to be part of something bigger than herself, experience has taught her that it's a mistake to rely on others. At times it's as if she looking for a reason to reject her new pack. Her relationship with her foster sisters is refreshingly normal--friends one minute, bickering the next. We learn no more about Taylor or Di's origins that we do about Giselle's. Taylor also seems to have some history with Damian, a witch. It becomes obvious that she cares for him, though his attention is fixed on Giselle, who is herself obsessing over the standoffish Asher.

Asher isn't just cold...he's outright offensive. Over the course of the story, we see his mask slip a little, but not enough to really grasp what's going on inside until near the end. Even with his problems, Asher seems a better match for Giselle than Damian does. I never came to see Damian as more than "friend" material, though I do like that Giselle shows such dignity and self-confidence in the end. I get the sense that there's more to all of these kids than we're seeing, and that there are some interesting dynamics ready to be explored in a sequel.

Unlike the relationships, the mystery behind the pack war is fully unraveled. And Giselle nearly gets herself killed in the process. I don't know how comfortable I am with that final attack on her. It's so brutal and yet taken as no big deal and maybe even acceptable by the rest of the characters. Apparently werewolf packs have rather idiosyncratic ideas of right and wrong and what constitutes reasonable punishment for the crime of trespass. I get the whole "animal" law thing, but it seems to overpower the humanity of some of the characters, which can make it hard to fully sympathize with them even when they might otherwise deserve sympathy. As a result, although I enjoyed reading about these wolves, I had no urge to imagine myself in the story...which is usually my favorite part of reading fiction.

Overall, I'd say the world Salidas has created is exciting and full of potential. I hope we get to spend more time with her werewolves, witches, and...the as-yet-unmet (in this book, anyway) ...vampires.
