Quarantine #3 The Burnouts Lex Thomas Books

I almost never write reviews of books, as I prefer not to influence readers into buying or not buying a book. That being said....

I enjoyed the Quarantine series quite a bit. I like post-apocalyptic literature, and although the concept was not wholly original (see the Gone series, by Michael Grant), it was interesting and unique enough to keep me reading. I enjoyed that the author did not try to make everyone get along after the main event happened; the idea that high school cliques would continue even after such a traumatic event was realistic to me. The writing was gritty; the author didn't shy away from being gory and even grotesque.

Character development was lacking many times. I felt like Lucy's "blossoming" into a bad-ass, in-control of herself female just faltered quickly. Gates was never really explored; it seemed like he was bi-polar, schizophrenic, or similar, but this was never really developed. David's hero complex quickly became tiring. Interesting characters like Violent and Hilary were a bit flat, although Hilary did get fleshed out a bit in this last installment. However, what really disappointed me about the series, as others have said, was the ending.

After reading three books in this series, the last lines were...obnoxious. It seemed to almost be a reflection on David and Will, and to use that adjective (I am trying to avoid saying it so as not to ruin any suspense or surprise for future readers) to describe Will is, in my opinion, an insult to his character. Will did a lot of brave things throughout the novel, almost more than David, and I felt that the last lines just cancelled all that out. On top of that, it's the ending of the whole trilogy, and it's abrupt. Yes, we get some closure to a relationship that was present throughout the series, but it's cold, clinical. It just did not leave a good taste in my mouth. It's rare that I end a book and am truly upset.

Overall, I enjoyed the series, and I don't regret reading it, but Lex Thomas, if you read these reviews, as a reader of your books, I gently request you to think about what your readers want from an ending to a series such as Quarantine. Don't leave us upset.

Quarantine #3 The Burnouts Lex Thomas Books Reviews

First book good, second book just ok, this book was boring, predictable and had so many holes in the story. The characters were horribly writen and the ending made me wish I had never read this book.
A lot of people complained about the love triangle in the book but I think it was necessary to have the book end the way it did. There were some things that could have been different but all books are like that. If you likes the first one, I am sure you will like the second and third book in the series.
This series really has me hooked, finished the second book in the middle of the night and had to buy the 3rd right away to continue reading. Definitely worth the read!
Nice book for the price. Bought as a gift for my sister, and she loves it. I haven't read the series, but it definitely has pulled her in and she now owns them all.
Entertaining read. All three books were fun to read. I thought there was some disturbing scenes in the book for teens. But considering what they watch on TV today it was probably pretty tame. I feel like the author's rushed the ending but other than that I was entertained
I pre-ordered this book because, you know, it's Quarantine... people.

First, let me say that I want my money back!!! F*&#&#. Why didn't I wait to check it out of the library?

I just loved the first book, loved it. The second one was a little too much but still good. But this one, oh this one. What the h*&#&#&, L & T?

We still have the gore, the action, the fights... I became tired of Lucy. You just don't talk like that to somebody who has saved your life and taken care of you just because your boyfriends are back.

David became a...a nothing. I really though the love triangle was resolved in the previous book, but nope, they brought it back the worst possible way. And it ended the most f*#*#&ing ridiculous way.

I don't want to give out ending but, in the name of God! After so much originality, to end up like this?

Hillary. I am not happy with the way she went down (because it is obvious she was going to go down). Not one bit. I really wanted her to suffer for days, not for 30 seconds. So there, I am a sadist.

I really don't get how these parents outside preferred having their kids inside the school? However, all that concern seemed to evaporate when they came out. What the h*&^^#? Why not get them out before?

Seriously, I skipped lots of pages because I was not interested in Will and David fighting with the Geeks, or whoever they fought when they went back in. I was past that already.

So much unnecessary pet talk and c*&#&#*.

Ah!!! The ending. What a f*&&^%ing horrible ending. There, I said it.
Just barely behind my favorite series (I AM NUMBER FOUR) this amazing series is full of surprises. With twist after twist, this book is quite the suspense thriller. Causing me to wonder just what happens in those split seconds "behind the scenes", this series unexpectedly stole my attention. I could not wait to just pick up where I left off and start this crazy adventure again. This series is geared towards Suspense, Romance, and a bit of Thriller and Comedy. Never before did I know how anxious one could get waiting for the next book. I recommend this series cause it may surprise you and steal your attention as it did mine. All this is even after finding this book doesn't fit my general book criteria, rather it changed it to find others like this (NO SAFETY IN NUMBERS) to be even more amazing.
