The Distance Between Us is a super cute and refreshing YA romance. Caymen is just your typical high school student. She's good at science, and works at her mother's porcelain doll shop after school. She also has no idea what she wants to do with her life. Then walks in Xander. He comes across as the typical, spoiled rich kid as he picks up a doll for his grandmother. Caymen initially writes him off, but then he comes into the shop again, and walks her to school, and they bond. Their friendship grows as they try to help each other find what interests them career-wise, and of course, a romance blossoms from it.

I really liked Caymen (but not her name!). She just felt so normal and real. I loved her sarcasm and dry humor! She reminded me a lot of myself in that regard, since sometimes my jokes are entirely missed by people who don't know me well, i.e. almost everyone. I also liked that there was nothing exceptional or overly unique about her. Yes, she works in the creepiest store ever, but that's just to help her mom. It's not who she is; that's something she's still figuring out. I was a bit annoyed at some of her attitudes toward rich people, but that's something her mom has ingrained in her after being burned by Caymen's absent father. Caymen isn't as judgmental, especially after she starts falling for Xander and realizes that they have more in common than she expected.

My favorite part of The Distance Between Us was that it had a nice balance between the romance, Caymen's personal struggles, and family. While this was ultimately about the romance, there was a lot of focus on Caymen's relationship with her mother and their store. The store is really struggling, and Caymen is doing her best to get things on track, since sometimes her mother is a bit too nice to customers with the discounts and freebies. She's also been hiding something, and Caymen isn't sure what. Her mom goes out to strange meetings and there's a man lingering around and calling. Then there's the issue of Caymen's mother not speaking about her father, or letting her meet him. Of course, everything wraps up with a nice bow in the end.

I really enjoyed The Distance Between Us. I loved that it was simple and sweet without anything too over-the-top about it. Sure, the whole poor girl and rich boy fall for each other is cliche, but I thought Caymen and Xander were cute together, and the friendship first was a nice change of pace from other romances. I'll definitely be checking out more books from this author!

I finished this book the same night I started it. I tried to sleep but kept thinking about what was going to happen. I think that maybe I liked it to begin with because the names in the book already held a very special place in my heart so I already loved the characters.

I love the sarcasm and the witty comments that Kasie West writes with. It's authentic and natural. It makes me wonder if she is like that in real life and it makes me want to be her best friend.

I enjoyed this book so much I immediately bought The Fill-In Boyfriend and I don't think I'll be getting any kind of sleep tonight.

Anyways Xander and Caymen are more like a real couple then a fictional pairing. I appreciate that they feel so real. I mean yeah the book had its cheesy moments but what good book doesn't? I didn't call the last 100 pages of the book which is a nice change for me. I was actually surprised.

The one problem I had was the ending. I felt like I was left with more questions then necessary. It felt like I was being set up for a sequel that will probably never happen. Here's to wishing.
-*--Spoilers ahead*-*-*-I really liked this story.. and then it ended and I'm wondering where the rest of it is?? I feel like nothing in the story got resolved other than the main characters finally staying together after a back and forth. Who is the bill collector? Will Cayman visit her father?? Why is she really named Cayman?? Why did her mom leave her parents and hide the truth?? Will Susan be okay?? I'm trying to figure out if there is suppose to be a sequel to this book but I don't see anything as of yet (

I do like Cayman's humor and as previously reviewed by another person, she is for sure reminiscent of a Gilmore Girl. I do find it slightly ironic that although Cayman realized Susan is being unfair where she judges Mason differently than Xander, but she continues to judge Xander for the same reasons only proving that she too had a prejudice to his wealth. I wish we had gotten to know Xander better and why he was hanging out with 'friends' who obviously are not the nicest of people and how someone could not realize how nasty inside a person is.

But seriously, when my book ended with Xander going into the hospital room I seriously looked for the rest of the chapters. I liked this book but where is the rest??
After reading P.S. I Like You earlier this year, I knew I had to read some of Kasie West's other books. She has a great talent for writing romantic fluff. Yes, the book is cheesy. But sometimes, a girl needs a fluffy book she can blow through in a day or a weekend. The Distance Between Us delivered on that front.

Caymen and her mother barely skimp by, running a tourist shop in their town. Xander is a wealthy teen, new to the area, who is set to inherit the family business and is frequently on the front page of magazines. Due to past circumstances, Caymen and her mother are wary of getting involved with anyone with money, but that doesn't Caymen's feelings from doing what they will.

This book wasn't quite as cute and mushy as P.S. I Like You, but that didn't stop me from finishing the book in a day. It was a good fluff read, if predictable.
