So I have to admit. . The last review I wrote of Kailin Gow's work (the "Desire" series) was less than complimentary. But this? This is something else entirely. The editing was much better on this series (a few errors, but nothing that would make one continually cringe). The beginning of Fire Wars? If you've ever read the "Wicked Lovely" series, you'd notice the similarities. But the plot, unless I am mistaken, is all Ms. Gow's own.

The concept of humans as the embodiment of Olympian gods and goddesses is something that I have never seen- and I've read A LOT of YA dystopian. The concept of Erosion (sort of post-apocalyptic) makes sense and is entwined with the plot of the book. I'm not going to give any spoilers or major events but I will say- if you've read her work before and been a bit disappointed, try this series and give Kailin Gow another chance!

Fire Stones, the second book in Kailin Gow's mythological fantasy series, The Fire Wars, begins exactly where Fire Wars ends. Mac Evers is learning more about her possible life as the goddess Vesta and the stones she created, each with their own purpose. The threats against her life are increasing and becoming more dangerous as she locates each carefully hidden stone.

Mac had been one of Kailin's average characters, asking more questions than proactively looking for answers and she didn't really stand out in personality or actions. In Fire Stones, though, it seems as if a switch has been flipped and Mac is evolving into a heroine who makes decisions with confidence, and lets herself believe in what's really happening around her. She could never have been considered a push-over before, but now there's a strength in her actions that shows she's 'sticking it' to her known, and unknown adversaries.

Kailin gives readers more of everything with this novel. More action as enemies are revealed, more plot twists as Mac verges on forging her own destiny, and more romance as the heat between Mac and Chance reaches scorching levels of hot! Who could forget the mystery so deeply woven into this series? Fire Stones offers fans glimpses into a shared past between Vesta, Mars, and Neptune (Mac, Chance, and Varun, respectively). The effect of these sensual, or enlightening, dreams is like receiving puzzle pieces and trying to figure out how they all fit together. The Fire Wars series is one to keep an eye on because it will unquestionably burn brighter!

So this is the second book in the Fire Wars series... and let me tell you I could not WAIT to start reading it!

When the first one ended, Mac had to make a choice... Chase or Varun... both total hotties with a lot of other amazing characteristics going there way too! I honestly don't know how she could ever decide!

The first book was more about introducing all of the characters to us and making us fall in love with every single one of them (seriously! Kailin is so good at making you love all everyone in her books) in this book we get to learn more about their embodiments.

The main focus in this book though is Vesta, she is the centre of attention (and I honestly think she wouldn't have it any other way)

Basically in this book Mac has to find all of the stones, and with each stone she finds she starts believing that she truly is Vesta.

The great thing about this book though is there is a lot more action then there was in the first book... we get to meet the bad guy in this book and he is eeeevill!

As with the first book there is a lot of mythology tied into this series and I love it more and more, but I was shocked at the information she found out from her mother... I honestly didn't see that coming!

If you haven't started this series yet... what are you waiting for?? This is totally my favorite series that Kailin has written so far and I can wait to see what comes next for our friends.
One other thing, by the time I was done this book I was totally Team Chance!
So Mac made her choice, and I switched sides have you? Now that we know more about both of them would you change your mind? I know I have!
If you think this is another ya greek mythology or dystopian, you are going to be surprised. Fire Stones is so imaginative in combining greek mythology with dystopian in this carefully crafted world Kailin Gow has created, you don't even care if this book combines genres. I love the mythology of Vesta's stones. Each stone has a meaning and its unique powers. The story, plot, and action unfolds as Mac looks for the stones. Mac has truly grown into a stronger young woman in book 2. Her choices are thought through and not random. I thought she would choose one person over another, but you will see how amazing this book is at the end when something unexpected happens that blows everything off course. As always, this author is one to follow. Her books are amazing and it looks like she keeps getting better and better.
I'm going to copy and paste what I wrote about the third book, because it goes for this book too; A story that captures the reader from beginning to end, and leaves the reader craving for more. If you like love stories with a touch of magic in a magical world, then this book is for you.
Again not a very exciting book. Still a nice fast and easy read, but still shallow.with that being said, I am still reading.
I really like this book but I refused to pay that kind of money to buy the remaining books in the series. The editing is utterly terrible. I've read free books with better editing. If its ever free ill finish the series
